Monday, March 30th
Race Day is Saturday, September 12, 2020
For those of you unaware of the Mt Baldhead Challenge course, the 12-mile run we are known for, starts and ends at the waterfront in historic downtown Saugatuck. It includes trails through the Ox-Bow School of Art and Talmadge Woods, the newly-cut Woollam Nature Trail, and, of course, the famous 302 steps up Mt. Baldhead and down its western wooded descent. The route offers panoramic vistas of the Lake Michigan shoreline, the Kalamazoo River, and the Ox-Bow Lagoon.
The MBC shorter race, previously a 6-mile run, has been expanded to 7.5 miles to provide an even more interesting and varied event. This race starts on Bliss Street, directly across the river from the longer run, and ends in downtown Saugatuck at Wicks Park with a well-deserved celebration for runners from both races.
Mt. Baldhead Challenge
9am Start at Bliss Street on the west side of the river, directly across from Wicks Park. Arrive early to catch your shuttle from Wicks Park to Bliss Street.
Proceed to Oxbow. Note: 1.7 miles of additional trails thru Talmadge Woods have been added including your new favorite vista from The Crows Nest.
Proceed to Mount Baldhead and climb the 302 steps to the summit. The trail then descends down the western slope of the Mt. Baldhead dune and veers north for one final view of the lagoon before heading south along the beachfront.
From there you will proceed east along the Woolham Nature Trail and return to the river's edge. Exit right onto Park Street and continue around Lake Kalamazoo toward Saugatuck and Wicks Park.
